Nurturing Leadership — Insights from our International Women's Day Brunch

As part of our commitment to fostering an inclusive and empowering workplace, on Wednesday 6th March, Trader House hosted an International Women's Day Brunch for existing and emerging leaders. The event provided a platform for employees to engage in meaningful discussions on values-led decision-making and the identification of invisible leaders. We also celebrated the achievements of women within our organisation and inspired a collective commitment to nurturing leadership at all levels at Trader House.

Values-led Decision-making
One of the key themes of the morning was the significance of values-led decision-making in shaping a positive workplace culture. Our first speaker, Brigid Grice of Venn Sydney, emphasised the importance of aligning personal and organisational values to drive ethical and principled decision-making.

Attendees were encouraged to reflect on their own values and how they can integrate them into their daily work. Brigid shared real-life examples of successful values-driven leadership, illustrating the positive impact it has on both individuals and the organisation as a whole.

Identifying Invisible Leaders
In an era where leadership comes in various forms, we delved into the concept of identifying invisible leaders—those individuals who may not hold traditional leadership roles but significantly contribute to the success of the business through their influence, innovation, and dedication.

Tenille Halliday of Tenille Halliday + Partners highlighted the common barriers to our own visibility and participation as leaders, causing us to reflect on the need to recognise and amplify the voices of invisible leaders, creating a more inclusive leadership landscape. Through engaging anecdotes and a great ‘The Bear’ analogy,  we gained valuable insights into how to identify and support these often overlooked contributors within our own teams.

Conversation & Collaboration
Perhaps most importantly, the morning provided a unique opportunity for employees from all businesses to come together and collaborate across all departments. Participants engaged in lively discussions, sharing personal experiences and learning from one another. The event fostered a great sense of community, reinforcing our belief that diverse perspectives and collaborative efforts are essential components of a thriving workplace.

As we continue to champion diversity and inclusivity, these discussions will undoubtedly contribute to our ability to foster an environment where values guide our decisions and the potential of every leader—visible or invisible—is recognised and celebrated.
