Hot Cross Buns at Morning Market

Hot Cross Buns are one of our favourite seasonal treats. The warming spices, the soft interior, and the sticky, burnished top. Eaten fresh or toasted, they mark the Easter season in the most delicious way.

For the first time, this year Morning Market made their own in-house. The dough, deeply fragrant with cinnamon, cardamom, allspice, nutmeg, and clove, was kneaded slowly to develop flavour. It was then folded through with fruit steeped in Pastis and brandy - orange and lemon for brightness; prunes and apricots for depth; cranberries, currants, raisins, and sultanas for their jammy sweetness.

The Hot Cross Buns were made in small batches every morning by the Morning Market team, before being served toasted (with butter) in the store, or in boxes of six to take home.

A fleeting pleasure of the season, but one we’re already looking forward to next Easter.
